Sugar House Utah: University of Utah

The University Hospital complex and University of Utah sit high on the east bench of Salt Lake City. This photo was
taken in January from the flanks of Van Cott Mountain.
The Park Building is the administrative heart of the University of Utah.
The Olympic Legacy Bridge connects the student housing at the University of Utah with the lower campus. The
student housing is among the most spacious, modern and livable in the nation, having been built as the Olympic
Village for the 2002 Winter Olympic Games. Sugarhouse Utah real estate is about a five-minute drive.
The Ute football team went 12-0 in 2005 and went to a BCS bowl game.

The U. has a number of competitive women's sports teams. Its gymnasts are usually among the top 5 in the U.S.

The University of Utah is
the oldest university
west of the Missouri
River. It has several
internationally
recognized academic
programs,
and its
tuition is
a relative
bargain
compared
with other
universities. The dorms
are pretty new and very
nice, and the sports
teams are among the
nation's best. The men's
basketball program
finished No. 2 in 1998,
while the football team
finished No. 4 in 2005. It's
where Kirk went to school.
Sorry for this disjointed layout. As my good friend
Liz Winter reminds me, "beauty is pain." So in the
interest of an attractive page, I've made it a pain in
the butt to read. You might want to stop here,
anyway, because when it comes to the U. I'm so
biased you can't trust anything I say. I came to Utah
in 1977 from the Chicago area to go to the U., and I
had one of my first classes in that old three-story
building in the photo above. It hasn't changed a lot
on the outside. I hope they have at least revamped
the heating system, because it used to be about
150 degrees in there all winter long. The
basketball team has usually been a top 25 program.
We had Danny Vranes, an All-American, and Tom
Chambers, an NBA All-Star, on the same team when

I was in school. Later, we had Keith Van Horn, Andre Miller and Michael Doleac on one team, which
made it to the final eight. The next year, with Van Horn gone but Alex Jensen back from an LDS
mission, the Utes made it to the final game of the NCAA tournament. They led Kentucky by 10 at
halftime but did not have much bench, and they lost the game.
AAAAAAAARRRRRGGGGGGHHHHHHH! Thankfully, the football team began winning shortly afterward
and have helped me move past that painful chapter of my life. I have walked more times than I can
count from homes in Sugar House Utah to the stadiums for games. Now, if you would like some
